Fees, rebates and information for referrers

Fitzgerald Therapy aims to provide transparent and accessible fee information for clients and referrers. The Australian Psychological Society (APS) recommends an hourly rate of $318 for psychological services (2025–2026 financial year). Our fees remain below the recommended rate.

A standard psychology or counselling session is 50 minutes, unless otherwise stated.

Referrers can send referrals to info@fitzgeraldtherapy.com.au

Counselling fees (no Medicare rebates)

Counselling sessions are charged at $205 per session.
Counsellors are not Medicare-registered providers, which means Medicare rebates do not apply. This is the key difference between counselling and psychology services.

Please be advised that from March 2026, our counsellor sessions will increase to $215

Psychology fees and Medicare rebates

A standard psychologist appointment is $225 per session.

Please be advised that from March 2026, our Psychology sessions will increase to $240

Clients with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from their GP are eligible for a Medicare rebate of $98.95 per session, resulting in an out-of-pocket gap fee of $126.05.

Eligible clients may also access sessions under a Medicare Eating Disorder Management Plan (EDMP). Under this plan, clients may access up to 40 Medicare-rebated sessions per calendar year with a psychologist, as well as up to 20 rebated sessions with a dietitian, subject to eligibility and clinical review.

The EDMP initially provides 10 psychology sessions. A review by the GP is required to access a further 10 sessions. To access the final 20 psychology sessions, a subsequent review by both the GP and a psychiatrist is required, in line with Medicare guidelines.
Two of our psychologists are approved to accept referrals under Eating Disorder Management Plans, Amy and Sashelle.

Clients with a chronic medical condition may be eligible for a Chronic Disease Management Plan (also known as an EPC or Team Care Arrangement) through their GP.
This referral allows access to up to five sessions per calendar year with an allied health professional, including a psychologist, with a Medicare rebate of $56.00 per session.

Family therapy

Family therapy sessions run for 75 minutes and are charged at $307 per session.
Please note that Medicare rebates are not available for family therapy, regardless of referral type.

Private health insurance

Some private health funds may provide rebates for psychology or counselling services, depending on your level of cover.

Telehealth appointments

We offer telehealth sessions via phone or secure video, where clinically appropriate. Medicare rebates apply to eligible telehealth psychology sessions in the same way as in-person appointments.

Initial appointment deposit

A 50% deposit is required to secure all initial appointments.
This deposit will be deducted from your session fee on the day of your appointment. Deposits are refundable and transferable if more than 48 business hours notice is provided.

Cancellations

We require adequate notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations and non-attendance may incur a fee. Please contact the practice for full cancellation policy details.

What to expect in your first session

The first session focuses on your therapist getting to know you, understanding your concerns, and discussing your goals. Together, you will develop an initial treatment plan to guide future sessions.

What we do not offer

We do not provide court reports, medico-legal assessments, or documentation for legal proceedings.
